Assay and&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 19px; color: var( --e-global-color-text );\">interpretation of haematological parameters in&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 19px; color: var( --e-global-color-text );\">experimental animals during the study of a potential drug&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 19px; color: var( --e-global-color-text );\">or extract is a common practice in toxicological studies.&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 19px; color: var( --e-global-color-text );\">Currently, the stem is being added to the roots for&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 19px; color: var( --e-global-color-text );\">management of prostate enlargement in Ghana without&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 19px; color: var( --e-global-color-text );\">scientific evidence.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Objective: <\/b>To study the effect of aqueous stem extract of&nbsp;<span style=\"font-size: 19px; color: var( --e-global-color-text );\">Croton membranaceus (CMASE) on the haematological&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 19px; color: var( --e-global-color-text );\">indices of male Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Methods:<\/b> A total of 24 male SD rats were divided into 4&nbsp;<span style=\"font-size: 19px; color: var( --e-global-color-text );\">groups and administered distilled water (control), CMASE&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 19px; color: var( --e-global-color-text );\">doses of 30, 150 and 300 mg\/kg by oral gavage for 60 days.&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 19px; color: var( --e-global-color-text );\">At the end study, blood obtained by cardiac puncture after&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 19px; color: var( --e-global-color-text );\">anesthesia was analyzed. Results were using one way&nbsp;<\/span>analysis of variance (ANOVA) with Graphpad prism 6, and&nbsp;<span style=\"font-size: 19px; color: var( --e-global-color-text );\">significance set at p &lt; 0.05. Ethical clearance was obtained&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 19px; color: var( --e-global-color-text );\">for study (UG-IACUC 003\/18-19).<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Results:<\/b> No statistical significant differences was observed&nbsp;<span style=\"font-size: 19px; color: var( --e-global-color-text );\">in haematological indices: haemoglobin concentration&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 19px; color: var( --e-global-color-text );\">(HB),red blood cells (RBC),mean corpuscular haemoglobin&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 19px; color: var( --e-global-color-text );\">(MCH), mean corpuscular volume (MCV),mean corpuscular&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 19px; color: var( --e-global-color-text );\">haemoglobin concentration(MCHC),mean corpuscular&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 19px; color: var( --e-global-color-text );\">haemoglobin (MCH), white blood count (WBC) levels in the&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 19px; color: var( --e-global-color-text );\">treated groups compared to control. Also, effects of CMASE&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 19px; color: var( --e-global-color-text );\">on these indices were mostly in non dose-dependent&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 19px; color: var( --e-global-color-text );\">pattern.
